5 Inspirations from Butterfly’s Kaleidoscope

A bouquet of colors represents the metamorphosis elixir of butterfly. I thought I was painting a floral, then suddenly across the room I saw the butterfly emerge. Just a suggestion, and yet I felt sure I’d seen her. I grabbed my sketchbook and pencil to see exactly where she was/is!

Butterfly Kaleidoscope II

Awareness is everything. Most of the time I feel like I am painting blind. Like caterpillar, just inching along in life chomping at what’s right in front of me. One thing I do, a creative habit that helps me along, is step back and pause. I pause for lunch, not a sandwich at my desk, lunch in the garden with Zipper. I pause in the evening, to watch a movie with Jim. And I pause at night, to let the dreams bring me visions for tomorrow.

Butterfly Essence

Colorful wavelengths of light within us mirror nature’s beauty. Lost in the light, the array of colors can be overwhelming. For structure, I draw with willow charcoal. A series of black and white drawings helps me structure the values of the colors. This is transformational, as it helps me draw the connections between human and nature together in my paintings.

Meadow I & II

Patterning nature’s healing process, butterfly emerges with passionate expression. Butterfly is simply being herself as she emerges from the cocoon. She perches in the sun. As her wings dry, her shimmering essence glimmers as she takes flight. One moment a silhouette, the next a bouquet of blossoming beauty.
