The Tuscarora docked at Barretts's Landing on the Blackwater River in Franklin, Virgnia ~ an historic milestone.

I was commissioned by Woodlands Division of Union Camp to commemorate the retirement of the Tuscarora in 1999 with an oil painting. As part of my research, I boarded the Tuscarora on a cold morning to ride northward to the mill. After ten years of serving Union Camp, from community relations to marketing, medical, and woodland divisions, I envisioned the Tuscarora positioned in the foreground, docked at Barrett's Landing, with logs stretching out in the distance and the mill standing over all. I see now what is commemorated here is the legacy of community ~ in this portrait of Barrett's Landing.

In the middle of the commission, the announcement came that IP had acquired Union Camp. It was the intent of Woodlands Division to gift prints of the painting to employees ~ but that never happened.

I offer them here in honor of all who served the legacy of community ~ both inside the company and beyond. This is the original Artist's Edition that I hand pulled for Woodlands. It is printed on cotton rag watercolor paper with deckle edge, archival ink, signed by hand lower right.
