Why Commission a Work of Art

Studio Commissions generally involve site-specific paintings, where a particular palette, size, or subject is needed. An example is the top painting, Spirit of Summer 48" x 60", which was created in collaboration with the home owners and is now installed over their black leather sectional overlooking the sound on the Carolina coast. Studio commissions can be oil paintings, mixed media works, pastel paintings, fiber art, tile murals, painted murals, or graphic drawings in charcoal or paint.

You may be surprised at this range of materials in which I work. Many of my fiber art and mural projects have been created for corporate installations, including Boston Children's Hospital and U Mass Memorial. A ten foot triptych, coastal landscape painting installed at the Camp LeJeune Mental Health Center in North Carolina was painted on three unstretched canvases. This made it easy to ship and install across the country.

The mosaic tile mural, hand painted on 1/2" glass tiles and varnished with polyurethane, is based on my plein air painting Haven.

If you are wishing for a special work of art that fits perfectly in your home and heart ~ all my experience will serve you well.  Together we can create a painting you will love.

And it will be delivered on time, on budget. When I give you a delivery date, count on it. When I provide you with written contract proposal options for size and price, know that you will get the one you select on budget. If you're not happy, I'll adjust the painting.

How to Take the Next Step

If you are thinking about a commission, I will meet with you to discuss your ideas and questions. If your project is something that I feel I can do for you, I will offer you a written commission proposal outlining the options we discuss. This will include the designs we discuss with several size and subject options for you to choose from. If you choose to proceed with the commission, you may sign and return the commission contract with your deposit of 50%.

In general, studio commissions require 6 - 8 weeks to complete. This can vary if I am travelling out of the country. I will advise you of my schedule when we talk so that you can plan accordingly. I am happy to provide you references.

Residential Commissions

Usually someone who commissions my work for a residence is familiar with my paintings and style. Often they have purchased one or more paintings in the past.

Corporate Commissions

Most of my corporate commissions are created with art consultants and committees representing clients. If your project is for health care or a corporate institutional installation, I am happy to provide you with appropriate references.   Email me your project specs.
