" I use willow charcoal to draw energetically into wet oil paint. My fascination with the intersection of human and divine, first showed up in France, in the juxtapositions of man-made and organic forms. During my residency. at Musee de La Grande Vigne in Dinan, I used soft, delicate twigs of willow charcoal to draw on raw linen. To fuse the charcoal on canvas, I layer it with washes of oil paint, oil pastel, and varnish."
Dorothy fuses drawing and painting in mixed media works on canvas. Drawing with willow charcoal, her energetic calligraphy unfurls with twigs of charred willow tree in hand. Responsive to her touch because of their special softness, uncompressed willow charcoal expresses her emotions in bold deep strokes or delicate, thin detailed etchings.
Mixed Media Fusion works are sealed with satin varnish, and displayed without glass.
