In 2015 Dorothy lived in Tuscany for two months. There she sought to deepen the work she'd begun during her artist residency in France two years earlier. This time she wanted to "retrain the workaholic" she knew herself to be.
"I had no clue how to unwind the workaholic. I thought I might absorb the Tuscan Lifestyle into my palette and my life ~ but what that would look like? I had no clue."
In Tuscany she discovered they say, 'wish' instead of 'want.' She took this to heart and began editing her words each time she spoke.
"Changing one word in my vocabulary transformed the way the world looks."
This little word cracked open every notion Dorothy held. Wants disappeared. She wanted nothing anymore. She became absorbed in painting, coloring canvases over and over again. Colors on her palette grew more vibrant. She painted with wild abandon, any subject or media that struck her fancy.
